It was a star-packed night in Nashville as the 2019 CMT Music Awards, hosted by Little Big Town, celebrated, yet another big year in country music. The live broadcast, which kicked off Wednesday, June 5, at 7 p.m. CT, serves as the unofficial kick-off to the annual CMA Music Festival.
As the first winner of the night, Carrie Underwood was presented with the Female Video of the Year trophy for her video for “Love Wins,” off her album, Cry Pretty. Underwood won the title in 2018, as well with “The Champion.” She is also the most decorated artist in the show’s history, and currently has 19 wins under her belt.
Announced by Trisha Yearwood, Underwood, who stunned in a sparkly, gold mini-dress, gave her hockey husband Mike Fisher a smooch before making her way up to the podium.
“I don’t know how I didn’t fall” she laughed, “Thank you so much fans. Oh my gosh! Thank you, Shay and Drake thank you so much just for making this video special and beautiful and wonderful.”
“It is my husband’s birthday today,” she added, as the camera panned to her man. “Look what they got you!”
Aside from enjoying her crowning moment, Underwood, who beat out contenders like Brandi Carlile, Carly Pearce, Kacey Musgraves, Kelsea Ballerini, and Miranda Lambert, is slated to perform later during the live broadcast. She is also on the road as part of her all-female Cry Pretty Tour 360, featuring Maddie & Tae and Runaway June as opening acts.
